Alchemy 2017 Art Fundraiser

The Alchemy Art Fundraiser is a community-driven art funding program for any and all groups or individuals that want to bring art to Alchemy. Funding comes from two sources:

  1. The Alchemy Art Fundraiser event on July 29, 2017 and the accompanying Online Art Fundraiser. 100% of proceeds from the events go to the artists.
  2. The FAI Events Committee has provided $25,000 for Fund Boosting and Cross-Pollination Grants.

The Alchemy Art Fundraiser is about more than simply providing money to artists for projects. One purpose of the event is to place the privilege and responsibility of allocating community funds in the hands of the community. Funding is not decided by a committee of select individuals. Instead, anyone that chooses to attend the event or donate online gets to decide which project every dollar they spend is allocated to.

Another purpose of the event is to empower YOU to achieve your artistic vision through logistical support and, of course, funding. The Alchemy Art Fundraiser Team and the Alchemy Art Team work with you on tasks like making budgets and promoting yourself and your vision. We are here to help you with many of the logistical and administrative skills necessary to undertake an art project of any scale, should you need it!

More details on exactly how the event and funding works can be found on the Alchemy Art Fundraiser FAQ.

What kind of projects are eligible?

Almost anything you can think of, including but not limited to:

  • Paintings
  • Performance art
  • Art cars
  • Sculptures made of any material, including burnable ones
  • Fire art
  • Propane for already existing fire art
  • Playful, interactive art
  • Culinary art
  • Art incorporating the creative use of lights and/or sound
  • Whatever crazy idea that you’re thinking of right now!

Any project that involves an open flame in any way must be approved by the Fire Safety team.

Here is a short list of things that will not be funded through this process:

  • Tickets to the event
  • Alcohol
  • Projects in which little to no creation is involved
  • Projects without a significant outward-facing component or projects that only allow a small portion of the community to experience them
  • Items prohibited at the event: fireworks (even if they're legal in Georgia), firearms, wish lanterns/sky lanterns/flying paper lanterns
  • Anything that violates local, state, or federal law
  • Anything deemed by the Alchemy Art Fundraiser Team to be unreasonably dangerous or reckless

If you’re not sure whether or not something can be funded, ask us! We want to say "YES!" to as much as we can, and we’ll work with you the best we can to make your vision a reality.

Who should apply?

Anyone with a vision and the drive to achieve it! But please keep this in mind...

The Alchemy Art Fundraiser is specifically targeted for groups and individuals that have a vision but lack the funding and support necessary to achieve it. The Alchemy Art Fundraiser exists to relieve the financial burden that would prevent you from making your art. If there are not serious financial barriers between you and the creation of your project, we request that you consider not participating in this process.

This also applies particularly to established theme camps, especially those that don’t collect any dues from their members or utilize other avenues for fundraising. For example, consider a camp of 35 members. This camp has 35 different paychecks to pool money from. If each member contributed $30, then that’s a total of $1,050 for the camp to work with. Now consider a single person or a small group of 4 people trying to come up with $1,050. Those are very different scenarios!

We won't attempt to judge anyone’s financial need. Instead, we are choosing to trust the community to self-select. We simply ask that you be mindful of what your needs and resources are and make that judgement yourself. Consider that if you could have funded your project another way, then you’ve taken money from another artist that may not have had other options.

The Alchemy Art Fundraiser team has lots of experience in funding projects through other means. If you decide not to get funding through the Art Fundraiser, but aren’t sure exactly how to go about securing funding through other ways, let us know! We’ll do whatever we can to help you out!

Ok, I’m in! What’s next?

Make sure that you read the artist expectations document so you can get an idea of what to expect from us and what we expect from you. Once you've got an idea ready to go, fill out the application!

The Early Deadline to Apply is 11:59 pm, July 10!

The final deadline to apply is July 17.

Cross Pollination Grants

Got an old project that's collecting dust? Maybe it just needs a fresh coat of paint or to have some of those worn out 2-by-4’s replaced? Or what if you've got a Totally Sweet ProjectTM that you brought to another event (or a past Alchemy or Euphoria!) and want to showcase your vision at Alchemy? The Cross Pollination Grant is for YOU!

This grant is to help already existing projects that have fallen by the wayside to get the extra boost they need to get them to Alchemy. The grant is also for projects that have appeared at other events, including past Alchemy and Euphoria events.

Unlike projects submitted to the Alchemy Art Fundraiser, Cross Pollination Grants are reviewed by the Alchemy Art Fundraiser Team. This team will determine who will receive the grants and how much funding they’ll receive.

Additionally, make sure that you read the artist expectations document so you can get an idea of what to expect from us and what we expect from you.

The guidelines and restrictions for Cross Pollination Grants are as follows:

  • The project must be already completed
  • Funding may be used to:
    • Repair or perform upkeep on an already existing project
    • Prepare an already existing project for long-distance travel that would otherwise not be able to travel
    • Transport an already existing project to Alchemy. Funding for project travel may only be used if the transport of the project incurs additional costs that would not be incurred were you not bringing the project. If you were renting a vehicle anyway regardless of whether or not the project was coming to Alchemy, then you may not use funds for travel expenses. Similarly, if you were tossing it in the car you were already bringing to Alchemy regardless of the project, then you may not use funds for gas.

The Deadline to Apply for Cross-Pollination is 11:59 pm, July 17!
