If you've been to Alchemy you're definitely aware of our urge to blow things up on Saturday night at the effigy, and our more solemn and thoughtful temple burn on Sunday. Did you also know Alchemy has art burns outside of Saturday and Sunday night?
For the past few years the art department has been growing a program for large art burns. In 2023 we had NINE art burns that community artists brought to Alchemy. We're looking to do it again in 2024. Today we are opening up submissions for our Large Art Burns (LABs).
Would I Make a Good LAB artist?
Do you enjoy creating large scale art sculptures and watching them ignite?
Do you like to get rope burns, run chain saws, sweat, and get splinters?
Do you want to watch thousands of hippies cheer while your hard work becomes the focal point of the entire event?
If you answered yes to any of these please submit our form for a LAB!
If you have the skills and want to be part of the LAB tech teams but don’t have a design in mind, you can apply here too. We need folks to help with fabrication and assistance on site along with artists bringing big ideas.
To inspire your amazing ideas, our theme this year is: LIGHTING THE VOID
The deadline to submit your interest in a LAB is Thursday February 29th at midnight. The art department is targeting March 31 to make final decisions but you should hear from us before that.
LAB curious but not sure?
Come by UUCA for a workshop on how to build large burn art on Saturday February 24th.
